Swarna Jaleswara Temple, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
Swarna Jaleswara Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha, India. It is considered as one of the oldest Temples of Odisha. The Temple bears close architectural affinity to the Parsurameswara temple. The Temple was under the control of  by the Archaeology Survey of India.




History
It is believed that this temple was built in the first half of 7th century CE and is older than the famous Parasurameswara temple. It was built by the Shailodbhavas. The temple was in complete dilapidated state and restored by the Archaeology Survey of India.


The Temple
This is an east facing Temple. It is a living Temple. The temple is triratha on plan and triangabada in elevation. The temple is small with a rekha type vimana. There is no Jagmohana. Presiding Deity is called as Swarna Jaleswara. He is housed in the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam. Nandi can be found facing the sanctum. The vimana as well as the exterior walls of the temple are endowed with sculptures and carvings.



 
Dvarapalas can be found at the base of doorjamb. Dvarapalas are accompanied by a male assistant with folded hands which is unique from other temples. The remaining areas in the doorjambs are decorated with floral designs and scroll designs. Ashtagraha Panel can be found above the lintel. There is a fragmentary figure of Naga holding a pot can be found near the entrance. There is a Nataraja Panel on the Vimana in the front side. Carvings of Lord Shiva with his family can be found below Nataraja panel.




Ganesha, Parvati and Kartikeya are the Parsvadevta deities, housed in the niches around the exterior walls. There are two more empty niches can be found in the exterior walls. Friezes and depictions of Lord Shiva marriage, Shiva Linga Pooja, various forms of Lord Shiva, Chaitya motifs, Nayikas, Lotus designs, Ramayana & Mahabharata Scenes, scroll works and Mithuna figures can be found in the exterior walls.
