Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala – Bedi Anjaneya Swamy Temple

Bedi Anjaneya Swamy Temple is located exactly to the opposite of Lord Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Tirumala. It is the sub shrine dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple lies exactly opposite to the Mahadwaram near Akhilandam (place where coconuts are offered). The deity in this temple has both of his hands handcuffed. This ancient temple enjoys priority after Bhu Varaha Swamy Temple and Venkateswara Swamy Temple. Every day, after offering Naivedya to these deities, it is brought to this temple.

Legends

According to the legend, Lord Hanuman in his youthful age wanted to leave Tirumala, in search of a camel. This forced his mother Anjana Devi to tie his hands with cuffs and order him to stay in that place till she returned. However, it is believed that Anjana Devi stayed back in Akasha Ganga area and never returned to this place. Hence, the icon of Lord Hanuman in this temple will be seen in a unique form where both his hands were handcuffed (“Bedi-Cuffs”).

But Lord Venkateswara did not neglect Hanuman, his ardent disciple. Watching his beloved disciple standing all alone in front of his Temple, Lord Venkateswara instructed his Temple priests to offer timely food to Hanuman each and every day and take good care of him until his mother returns. It is for this reason alone that every time neivedhyam is offered to Lord Venkateswara and Varahaswami every day, the same Naivedya is brought to this temple and offered to Lord Hanuman.

The Temple

The idol at the temple is of Lord Hanuman (Anjaneya) is enshrined with its hands folded in the Anjali pose. The temple faces the Mahadwaram of the Venkateswara Temple. In the Vaishnavite tradition, it’s customary to possess either Garuda or Anjaneya opposite the most temple.

The Temple remains open from 05:30 AM to 09.00 PM.

Poojas

Abhishekam is performed every Sunday to this deity, while special Abhishekam is performed on Hanuman Jayanthi every year.
