Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala – Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 250 meters from Tirumala
RTC Bus Station, 1 Km from Tirumala Main Bus Stand, 23 Kms from Tirupati
Railway Station, 24 Kms from Tirupati Central Bus Station, 33 Kms from Renigunta
Railway Junction, 40 Kms from Tirupati Airport, 61 Kms from Srikalahasti, 90
Kms from Chittoor, 156 Kms from Chennai, 160 Kms from Nellore and 170 Kms from
Chennai Airport. The sacred temple of Lord Sri Venkateswara Swamy in Tirumala
hills is easily accessible by all modes of transport. After reaching Tirupati,
one can easily travel to Tirumala by road or on foot.
Foot
Steps
There are two paths to travel on foot from Tirupati to
Tirumala. These paths are called Sopanamargas. The Devotees to fulfil
their vow to Lord Venkateswara will
take this path to reach Tirumala on foot from Tirupati. Both the paths are
completely roofed and passes through seven hills which are part of Seshachalam
Hills.
Alipiri
Mettu:
The first and Ancient path starts from Alipiri and consists of a total 3550 Steps which makes a
distance of 11 Kms. At Alipiri there is a temple dedicated to Lord
Venkateswara called Padala Mandapam. There are Four Gopurams
(Temple Towers) on the way.

Srivari
Mettu:
It originates at Srinivasa Mangapuram, about 15 Kms from
Tirupati. It is 2.1 Kms (1.3 mi) long. This trail has 2400 steps and
is shorter than Alipiri Mettu path.

By Road
Tirumala can be accessed by road from Alipiri. The
distance is 23 Kms (14 mi). There are two roads from Alipiri to Tirumala,
one each dedicated to up and down traffic. The state government-owned Andhra Pradesh State Road
Transport Corporation (APSRTC) operates
frequent Sapthagiri and Sapthagiri Express buses from Tirupati and Alipiri
and also from nearby places. Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) runs free buses for transit within Tirumala.
Tirumala has direct bus services from Tirupati with a
frequency of a bus in every 2 minutes. It also has direct buses from Chennai,
Bengaluru and Vellore. Paid taxis and private bus operators also ply buses from
nearby cities such as Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Bangalore to
Tirupati. Buses and other transport are banned on Ghat road from Tirupati to
Tirumala between 12.00 AM and 3.00 AM.
Automobile
Clinic:
In case of vehicle breakdowns on the Ghat roads, TTD
offers service through its automobile clinic levying certain charges on case to
case basis. The pilgrims can either report at Toll Gates of Alipiri or GNC in
Tirumala or contact +91 877 226 3636 for immediate help. A mechanic will be
sent in a mobile van equipped with spares, to attend to the problem by TTD
transport department.
By Train
Tirumala does not have its own railway station. The
nearest railway station is at Tirupati, Tirupati
Main is one of the major railway station in the South Central Railway zone of the Indian
Railways, providing rail connectivity to
major parts of India. Tirupati railway station is well equipped with five
platforms and an escalator. It is under the jurisdiction of Guntakal railway division. Renigunta
Junction is another important railway
station which lies on the Chennai – Mumbai rail corridor.
By Air
The nearest airport is Tirupati
Airport. It is a domestic airport with
direct flights to Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and New
Delhi. The nearest major airport is
the Chennai International Airport.
