Kholeshvar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Barshi Takli Town in Barshi Takli Taluk in Akola District in Maharashtra, India. The temple is believed to be built in 12th century CE. The temple is one of the state protected monuments in Maharashtra declared by Archaeological Survey of India.




The Temple

This temple follows Hemadpanthi style of architecture. The ramparts of the temple resemble Rajput forts and palaces. There are two deepa sthambas in front of the temple. The temple consists of sanctum, antrala and sabha mandapa. The sanctum is star shaped and situated below the ground level. The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Kholeshvar in the form of Shiva Linga within circular yonipitha. The exterior of the temple is devoid of any decoration. An ancient step well can be seen adjacent to the temple premises.




Connectivity

The temple is located at about 1 Km from Barshi Takli New Bus Stand, 1.5 Kms from Barshi Takli Railway Station, 19 Kms from Akola, 32 Kms from Shelu Bazar and 254 Kms from Nagpur Airport. The temple is situated on Akola to Shelu Bazar route.

Durga Gudi Kalyani is an ancient stepwell, located on the banks of the Malaprabha river in the heart of Aihole, an historical town, in Bagalkot District in Karnataka, India. The stepwell is situated close to the Durga Temple.

The Stepwell

This Stepwell is smaller than the well near Badiger Gudi. It is situated close to the Durga Temple. This stepwell was built to ensure adequate water supply to the temples in the complex. The water stains on the walls clearly indicate dipping water-table over time in the region.

The temple complex is located at about 100 meters from Aihole Bus Stand. Aihole is located at about 13 Kms from Pattadakal, 30 Kms from Badami Railway Station, 33 Kms from Bagalkot Junction Railway Station, 34 Kms from Badami, 38 Kms from Bagalkot, 88 Kms from Gadag, 136 Kms from Hubballi Airport, 164 Kms from Belgaum Airport, 277 Kms from Goa and 446 Kms from Bengaluru. Aihole is situated on Pattadakal to Amingad route.

Kasivisvesvara Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in Lakkundi Village near Gadag Town in Gadag District of Karnataka. This Temple along with its stepped Kalyani (Step Well) is one of the famous tourist attractions of Lakkundi. The temple is protected as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of India. The Temple is located at about 250 meters from Lakkundi Bus Stop.



The Temple
This is a Trikuta (triple-celled) temple. Shikhara of all the cells are lost. The main cell houses a Shiv Linga. The Shiva Linga is made from Saligrama Stone. The common mandapa is fronted with a porch supported on four front pillars. Perforated panels are present on either side of the antarala door-jambs of all the cells. External walls are devoid of any sculptures. Miniature shrines are present on the south and north vimanas.



There is a stepped well called Muskina Bavi (Veiled Well) dated to Chalukya period can be found next to the Manikeswara Temple. There are steps on three sides of Kalyani and the approach to the mandapa of the temples forms a bridge on the fourth side. The tank is artistically built with small canopied niches inside the walls of the well enshrining lingas. The well actually begins beneath the temple and extends outward. There is an entrance to the well just next to the temple.
