Velhaleshwar Temple, Vilhale, Maharashtra

Velhaleshwar Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Vilhale Village in Bhusawal Taluk in Jalgaon District in Maharashtra, India. The temple is one of the state protected monuments in Maharashtra declared by Archaeological Survey of India.

History

The temple was built by the Seuna (Yadava) dynasty of Devagiri in 12th century CE.

The Temple

This temple is facing towards east and is in dilapidated state. The temple stands over a raised platform and follows Hemadpanti style of architecture. The temple consists of sanctum, antrala and sabha mandapa. Nandi can be found in the sabha mandapa facing towards the sanctum. The sanctum enshrines a Shiva Linga within square yonipitha. It is said that the Shiva Linga was installed on a Shri Yantra. The superstructure over the sanctum, antrala and sabha mandapa are in damaged condition. The exterior of the temple is decorated with sculptures of deities of Hindu pantheon, floral motifs, and geometric patterns.

Connectivity

The temple is located at about 11 Kms from Bhusawal, 12 Kms from Bhusawal Bus Stand, 12 Kms from Bhusawal Railway Station, 23 Kms from Muktainagar, 41 Kms from Jalgaon and 179 Kms from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Airport. The temple is situated at about 11 Kms to the south east of Bhusawal on the Jalgaon to Muktainagar route.
