Goroba Kaka Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Sant Gora Kumbhar located at Ter Village in Osmanabad Taluk in Osmanabad District in Maharashtra, India. The temple complex houses the samadhi of Sant Gora Kumbhar and Kaleshwar shrine. The temple complex is situated on the banks of Terna River. The temple is one of the state protected monuments in Maharashtra declared by Archaeological Survey of India.

History

Sant Gora Kumbhar (1236 – 1317 CE) was a Hindu Sant associated with the Bhakti movement and the Varkari sect of Maharashtra, India. He was a potter by trade and devotee of Vithoba. Gora Kumbhar, along with other saints, wrote and sung hundreds of Abhangs. He was born in this village. It is said that he merged with Lord Vithoba in 1317 CE in Terdhoki. The temple was built in 14^th century CE after the death of Sant Goroba.

The Temple

The temple complex measures 80 feet in length and 80 feet in breadth and is completely enclosed within a compound wall. The temple can be entered through a lofty entrance gate surmounted by a Nagarkhana. The temple complex consists of two major temples namely Kaleshwar Temple and Gora Kumbhar Temple. The  Kaleshwar temple consists of sanctum, antrala, sabha mandapa and mukha mandapa. This temple follows Hemadpanti style of architecture.

The sanctum enshrines the presiding deity, Kaleshwar in the form of Shiva Linga. This temple might be originally dedicated Lord Vishnu but later got converted into a Shiva temple. There is a temple of Vitthal Rakumai housing the samadhi of Gora Kumbhar to the right side of the Kaleshwar Temple. This temple consists of sanctum and a mandapa. The mandapa is supported by two rows of pillars and having three arch formations in the front. The house of Gora Kumbhar is situated in the temple complex.

There is a neem tree in front of this house. It is said that he used to prepare the clay for making the earther vessels under the shade of this tree. Though the tree has died its trunk can still be seen. There is Jain shrine enshrining an idol of Mahavira in a sitting posture in the temple complex. Shiva Lingas, sculpture of lion killing an elephant and architectural fragments can be seen in the temple complex.

Connectivity

The temple is located at about 750 metres from Ter Bus Stand, 8 Kms from Palsap Railway Station, 10 Kms from Dhoki, 16 Kms from Murud, 17 Kms from Osmanabad, 51 Kms from Latur, 87 Kms from Solapur and 285 Kms from Pune Airport. The temple is situated on Osmanabad to Murud route via Palsap.
