Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala – Kumaradhara Theertham
Kumaradhara Theertham is one
of the most sacred Theerthams in Tirumala. The place is not just popular for
religious rites, but for its impeccable natural beauty as well.
Legends
Kumara Theertham:
Kumara Swamy after killing
the demon Tarakasuran, took bath and performed penance here to absolve himself
from Brahma Hatya sin upon Lord Siva suggestion. Hence the Theertham came to be
called as Kumara Theertham.
Lord Vishnu performed penance here:
It is also believed that a
devotee of Lord Vishnu lost his way in the hills and started meditating. Lord
Vishnu appeared before him and asked to take a bath in this pond. This holy dip
transformed the man into a sixteen-year-old boy and the pond came to be known
as Kumara Theertham.
Prayers
It gives the cumulative
merit of taking bath in the river ‘Ganga’ and other sacred rivers.
Connectivity
Kumaradhara Theertham situated
at 12 Kms to the north-west of Srivari Temple. Kumaradhara
Theertham can be reached from
Tirumala via Japali Theertham, from Papavinasam Dam, from Talakona through
forest via Annadammula banda, Gollolla raccha and from Kadapa district;
Kodur-Balupalli / Kukkala Doddi / Mamandur. Also, beside Tirumala Veda
patasala, mud road opened for vehicles.
