Siddheshwar Nath Temple, Ziro
– Legends
As per the Shiva
Purana, Lord Brahma and Lord
Vishnu once had an argument over who was supreme in the
creation. To test them, Lord Shiva pierced the three worlds as an
endless pillar of light, the Agni Linga. Lord Vishnu and Lord Brahma
decide to travel along the pillar downwards and upwards respectively, to find
the end of the light. Brahma lied that he had found the end, while Vishnu
conceded his defeat. Shiva appeared as a second pillar of light and cursed
Brahma that he would have no place in ceremonies while Vishnu would be
worshipped till the end of eternity.
Lord Shiva promised that there
will be Jyotirlingas in very small sizes. Devotees will worship him in Jyotirlingas
to get relief from their sins. Meanwhile Lord Shiva informed that he would
reside in huge Shiva Linga, Agni Linga which will appear in Arunachal in Kali
Yuga. Whoever merely visit this Shiva Linga will be blessed with relief from
their sins in their life time. It is mentioned in the Chapter -17 of Rudra
Khand of 1873 Edition of Shiva Purana. Many Yugas passed, It was miraculously
discovered in 1st fortnight of the July 2004 at Kardo forest of Ziro
area under Lower Subansiri District of Arunachal Pradesh. It was discovered by
Sri Prem Subba - a wood cutter in 2004.
He was cutting a tree at the
right side of Lingam, but tree was changing its direction while falling in
ground. He was surprised about this incident. So, he started searching by
clearing grasses at expected spot of falling direction of tree. He discovered
this huge Shiva Lingam. The wood cutter informed the nearby people about this
Lingam. Then many devotees led by Pandit Sri S. Dubey from nearest Shiva Temple
had performed Pujas. Pandit named this Lingam as Siddheshwar Nath as it
is standing in Deva Bhumi of Arunachal in Siddha Peeth. It has been found in
same way as the Amarnath Cave was discovered by a local resident in many years
ago.
