Tripura Sundari Temple, Udaipur – Religious Significance
Sakthi Peeth:
The mythology of Daksha Yaga and Sati's self-immolation is the main theme in the origin of Shakti Peethas. Shakti Peethas are divine temples of Adi Parashakti. The cause of the presence of Devi's presence is due to the falling of body parts of the corpse of Sati Devi. The seat (Peetha) part of Sati Devi's body is believed to have fallen here. There are 51 Shakti Peeth linking to the 51 alphabets in Sanskrit.
Anyone can offer Pooja irrespective of their religion:
The unique feature of the temple is that people from any religion can offer Puja to Sri Mata Tripura Sundari. During the middle of the 18th century, Samser Gazi has attacked and captured Udaipur. In Gazinama, the Biography of Samser Gazi, it is referred that Gazi himself had offered puja to Devi Tripura Sundari. The Temple management Committee also comprises of people from various religion, culture and portfolios. It is a custom that even the Muslims of Udaipur offer their first crops and milk to Devi Tripura Sundari. Devi Tripura Sundari is popular among the Tribal Communities of Tripura
Animal Sacrifice:
The offering of animal sacrifices is a very popular custom. Goats with garlands round their necks, as offerings. A notice board lists the charges for buffalo sacrifices. Goats are sacrificed daily except Dashami & one buffalo is sacrificed at the night of Amavasya.
Offerings:
A specialty here is the sweet, brown, condensed milk Pedas that devotees carry back from the temple, to be distributed among family and friends back home. The red hibiscus flower is also prized as an offering.
