Venkateswara Temple, Tirumala – Pandava Theertham
Pandava Theertham is one of the holy Theerthams in Tirumala, known for its divinity and sacredness. Pandava Theertham is situated at the bottom of the hill and faces the Narsimha Hill. The Theertham is also called as Gogarbha Theertham and Kshetra Palaka Theertham.
Legends
Gogarbha Theertham:
Many saints performed penance in this cave which resembled the womb of a cow. Hence the Theertham is called as Gogarbha Theertham.
Pandava Theertham:
It is also called Pandava Theertham because the Pandavas, it appears, stayed here and served the Lord during their stay in the forests.
Kshetra Palaka Theertham:
Rudra, the guardian angel of the shrine, stands beside the Theertha in the form of a huge boulder. Abhishekam is performed to this Rudra on every Maha Shivaratri day with Namaka and Chamaka mantras. Hence the Theertham came to be called as Kshetra Palaka Theertham.
The Theertham
Pandava Theertham is situated at the bottom of the hill and faces the Narsimha Hill. There is a platform built by the temple governance where the running water is diverted for devotees to take the water first in hand. Rudra, the guardian angel of the shrine, stands beside the Theertha in the form of a huge boulder. Abhishekam is performed to this Rudra on every Maha Shivaratri day with Namaka and Chamaka mantras. Every pilgrim visiting Tirupati must and should visit this place.
Prayers
Better time to bath is when sun is in Rishabha Rasi Sukla Paksham Dwadasi Sunday or Krishna Paksham Tuesday to get rid of the evils/ sins/ cries and confer good fortune. A bath in Pandava Theertham removes the hurdles in the path of destiny. Cows can be donated at this place. Bathing in this water is really refreshing and is said to wash away the evils and confer good fortune.
Best Time to Visit
The best time for visiting this place is during the rainy season, this place looks even more beautiful with greenery around and with white water gushing out of the rocks.
Connectivity
Gogarbha Pandava Theertham is situated on the way to Akasha Ganga Theertham. The Theertham is situated at about 2.5 Kms to the North East of Tirumala Venkateshwara Swamy Temple. One can easily reach Gogarbha Theertham or Pandava Theertham by catching a bus at CRO Office. Buses operate with a frequency of every 30 Minutes. You can purchase a single ticket to Akasha Ganga and alight any of the Theerthams on the way till you reach Akasha Ganga and can come back to CRO office with same ticket.
