The Temple
Jogulamba Temple is located in
the South-East corner of the village beside Tungabhadra river. This is a newly
built temple as the original temple was razed down by Bahmani Sultans in 14th
Century AD. This new temple is with a nice granite flooring. It is surrounded by
a water pool. As per the local people Jogulamba is an Ugra Rupa (highly
energetic and hard to worship) and the water pool nearby it makes the
atmosphere cool.
The Idol of Jogulamba is housed
in the sanctum. She is in sitting position. She has huge amount of hair with
lizard, scorpion, owl and a human skull in it. She is seen in a naked avatar
with her tongue stretched outside, an avatar of fierce goddess that grants
Siddhi in Yoga and hence called Jogulamba. This word is a changed form of
Yogula Amma in Telugu which means Mother of Yogis.
Adi Sankaracharya was believed
to have installed Sri Chakra at Jogulamba temple, which is not available now. The
original idols of Chandi and Mundi were left in Bala Brahmesvara Swamy Temple
and new idols are made and placed in Jogulamba Temple. There are shrines
for Saptamatrikas, Vigneshwara and Veenapani Veerabhadra in the temple
premises. The temple also has a Yagasala (where Yagnas are performed) and a
rest house.
Temple Opening Time
The temple remains open from 07.00
AM to 01.00 PM and 02.00 PM to 08.30 PM.
