Manikarneswar Temple is a Hindu
temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the village of Rajdwar in
North Guwahati on northern banks of the river Brahmaputra
in Kamrup District of Assam, India. The Temple is under the control of
Archaeological Survey of India.
History
The temple is one the oldest
temple in Guwahati built by Pala Dynasty in 10th Century CE. The
Temple was renovated by Rajeswar Singha in 1755 CE.
The Temple
This Temple is situated on top
of hillock. It is of star shaped. The roof is probably destroyed by earthquakes,
now temporary tin sheets cover it. The Temple can be reached by taking about 100
steps from foot hills.
