Mahendragiri – Accommodation
There are not much options to
stay in Mahendragiri Hills. The hill top is dotted with a couple of ashrams. Pilgrims
and Tourists can stay at Ashram near Kunti Temple or can encamp with their own
tents. This Ashram can accommodate maximum of 20 people only in a big hut. But
Ashram can accommodate around 20 people in a big hut. Blankets are there at
Ashram. But if you carry vegetables and some food for Ashram, then it will be
of great help to Ashram.
This Ashram offers meals to the
pilgrims, but prior notification has to be given. Locals can be informed about
your intention to stay in Ashram. They help the pilgrims in informing to
Ashram. Ashram doesn’t charge for the meals. It would be nice gesture if the
affordable pilgrims gift the ashram with rations. Rations can be purchased at Burakhat,
a small village at the base of Mahendragiri Hills. Locals will charge for their
services in carrying any supplies to top hill. There are no toilets and
bathrooms. Hence, pilgrims have to plan accordingly.
There are huge wells, waters
from these wells are used for bathing and drinking purpose. Jeranga is the
nearest place which has decent accommodation. There is an Inspection Bungalow
of Public Works Department in Jeranga. Another place, where pilgrims can get
comfortable stay is Paralakhemundi. Pilgrims can find Inspection Bungalow of Public
Works Department, circuit house, and few private hotels.
