Kusakeswara Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in Bhubaneswar, the state capital of Odisha,
India. The twin temples of Kusakeswara and Labakeswara are situated
on both the sides of the road, almost opposite to each other in close proximity
to the Ramesvara temple on the right and Satrughnesvara group of temples on the
left side of the road leading from Kalpana square to Bindhu Sagar.
History
The twin temples of Kusakeswara
and Labakeswara were built by Suryavamsi Gajapati rulers in the 14th
or 15th century CE.
The
Temple
It is a living temple and
facing towards west. Presiding Deity is called as Kusakeswara. He is housed in
the sanctum in the form of Shiva Lingam within a circular yonipitha. The Temple follows Pidha Deula
style. Ganesha, Kartikeya and Parvathi are the niche images found around the
walls of the Temple.
