Baidyanatha Temple,

Baidyanatha Temple is a Hindu
Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located inside the Kapilesvara Temple Complex,
located in the south western outskirt of the Kapileshwar, a well-known locality
in Bhubaneswar the state capital of Odisha, India. It is located at the end of
Kapilesvara road leading from Lingaraj
Temple to Kapileshwar Village. The temple is under the care and
maintenance of Kapilesvara Temple Trust Board. The temple is surrounded by gateway
of Rosasala in the west, Kapilesvara–I in south, north eastern gateway and
compound wall in the east. Mallia are priests of the Temple.
History
It was built around 18th
Century A.D. There is an inscription on the lintel in the western wall, in Oriya
script. The inscription has seven lines paleographically, it can be
ascribed to the 18th century A.D.
The Temple
The temple is facing towards
west. Presiding Deity is called as Baidyanatha. He is housed in sanctum in the
form of Lingam over a circular yonipitha and the Lingam is made in sand stone. The
Vimana of the shrine follows Pidha Deula style. The temple has four gateways,
one on each side.
Prayers
According to local legend Lord
Baidyanath is the god for curing ailments and diseases. So ailing people offer
special prayer and surrender before the Lord when suffering from diseases.
