Somabara Mandapa is a Hindu
Temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu located inside the Kapilesvara Temple Complex,
located in the south western outskirt of the Kapileshwar, a well-known locality
in Bhubaneswar the state capital of Odisha, India. It is located at the end of
Kapilesvara road leading from Lingaraj
Temple to Kapileshwar Village. The temple is under the care and
maintenance of Kapilesvara Temple Trust Board.
History
Somabara Mandapa was built in
the 15th century AD by Gajapathy Rulers.
The Temple
The temple is facing towards
east. The temple is surrounded by Chitresvara temple on its east, Jaleswara
temple on its west, compound wall on its southern side and Dakshina Kali temple
on its northern side. Presiding of this temple are two Vishnu images,
and the image of Jagannatha, Balabhadra,
Subhadra
and Buddha.
The sanctum measures 2.10 square meters. The temple is made of laterite stone. The
temple has a vimana and a frontal porch. The Temple follows Pidha Deula style.
The doorjambs are plain. There
are two images of Vayu and Parvati on both sides of the doorjambs. The image of
Vayu on the right side of the doorjamb is seating over a deer in lalitasana.
The image is wearing a Padmakundala sacred thread, necklace and crowned by
kirita mukuta. Both right and left arms are broken. On the left is a four-armed
image of Parvati sitting over a lotus pedestal. The lion mount is there in the
pedestal.

and Dola Purnima are the festivals
celebrated here.
