Jwalpa Devi Temple, Pauri, Uttarakhand
Jwalpa Devi Temple is a Hindu Temple dedicated to
Goddess Sakthi, located near Pauri in Garhwal region of Uttarakhand,
India. The temple is situated on the right bank of the Nawalika River (Nayar). It
is a renowned Siddhpeeth and is located near the road between Pauri and
Satpuli.

Devi:
According to a legend in the Skanda
Purana, Sachi (daughter of the demon king Pulom) wanted to
marry Indra,
so she worshipped the supreme mother Goddess Shakti here.
The Goddess then appeared in the form of Deeptimaan Jwaleswari and her wish was
fulfilled. Later, Deeptimaan Jwaleswari got corrupted to Jwalpa Devi.
Adi Shankaracharya visit to this
temple:
It is said that Adi
Shankaracharya visited and prayed in this temple, and that the
Goddess appeared to him.
History
The Anthwal family are the traditional priests and
caretakers of this temple, as the present temple was constructed by the late
Pandit Shri Dutta Ram Anthwal (the Anthwals, originally from village Aneth,
being the zamindar, or landlords, of the area). Now Anthwal Samiti and Jwalpa
Devi Samiti takes care of this temple.
Festivals
Every year two Navratri fairs
are held: Chitra and Shardiya Navratri. On the occasion of Janmashtami and
Navratri, a large fair is organized at Jwalpa Devi Temple.
Prayers
Every year thousands of people visit this temple,
especially unmarried girls, as it is said that the girls get fine grooms just
like Indrani (Shachi)
got Lord Indra by the grace of the Goddess.
Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 33 Kms from Pauri, 73 Kms
from Kotdwar, 73 Kms from Kotdwar Railway Station, 98 Kms from Najibabad
Junction Railway Station, 143 Kms from Dehradun Airport and 298 Kms from New
Delhi Airport. The Temple is situated on Pauri – Kotdwar road via Satpuli on
the banks of Nayar River.
