Koneswaram Temple, Trincomalee – Connectivity
The Temple is located at about 2 Kms from Trincomalee Central
Bus Station, 2.5 Kms from Trincomalee Bhadra Kali Amman Temple, 5 Kms from Trincomalee,
4 Kms from Trincomalee Railway Station, 12 Kms from Kanniya Hot Water Well, 14
Kms from Trincomalee Airport, 29 Kms from Thampalakamam Aathi Koneswaram, 113
Kms from Anuradhapura, 185 Kms from Kandy, 271 Kms from Colombo and 240 Kms
from Colombo Airport.
The temple is situated on the northeastern coast of Sri
Lanka, at the very end of Konesar Road. Continue past Fort Frederick (currently
an army base, and formerly a British colonial fort) and follow the path lined
with shops. You’ll walk through various courtyard shrines, eventually reaching
the giant statue of Shiva at the promontory. The temple requests all visitors
to please respect the religious customs and propriety, including appropriate
dress. Be prepared to remove your shoes.
By Bus:
Tourists can board the bus traveling to Trincomalee at
the Fort Bus Station, Colombo. The bus route is 49. The Temple is located at
about 2 Kms from Trincomalee Central Bus Station.
By
Train:
Nearest Railway Station is located at Trincomalee (4
Kms). There are daily trains starts at 6.15 am, 7.15 pm, 8.00 pm from Colombo
Fort Station to Trincomalee Railway Station.
By Air:
The Sri Lankan air force airline known as Heli Tours is
another easy and comfortable mode of travel to Trincomalee. Military planes are
used to conduct passenger flights beginning at the Rathmalana Air Force Base in
Colombo and ending at China Bay airfield in Trincomalee. Flights to Trincomalee
are approximately 1 hour and operate thrice a week. Nearest International
Airport is located at Colombo.
